WHAT IS KARKULKA

Karkulka – the Czech name for Little Red Riding Hood – is a service providing shared cars for for individuals, families, independent contractors, and businesses.

Karkulka cars are bright red, freely-accessible cars parked on the streets of Pilsen that anyone can quickly borrow simply after registering.

Karkulka is for forward-looking people who don’t want or don’t need their own car, but would like to be able to simply and quickly borrow one every now and then. Karkulka is an additional service provided by Pilsen’s municipal transport company PMDP, enabling you to use private transportation to get to wherever you need to go.

Karkulka is a car you use to make a weekend getaway, pick up groceries for the week, bring the kids to the train station, or go visit relatives.

You can borrow Karkulka for a day, a week, or even just an hour.

  • Pilsen carsharing is also great for independent contractors or entire businesses. Our shared cars can supplement or even replace your company fleet.
  • The cars are modern, fully equipped, regularly serviced, and always in perfect condition both inside and out. An ideal company car is one you don’t have to worry about.
  • So how to go about it? When you register, choose the Business Account option. Then at the end of each ride, the system will create an invoice for you based on your specifications.
  • Alternatively, contact us at karkulka@pmdp.cz and we’ll happily explain and set up everything for you.

WHY USE
KARKULKA?

Save money

If you don’t drive on a regular basis, Karkulka will cost you less than owning your own car. You only pay a fixed rate for the number of kilometres you drive and how long you borrow the car. The price list is simple. No hitches, no small print. Just fair.

Worry-free wheels

All our cars are insured and have vignettes and fuel cards. If you do encounter any problems, a roadside assistance vehicle will help you 24/7.

A car only when
you need one

Insurance, mandatory liability, maintenance costs – car owners have to deal with these year round. But did you know that the average car spends 95% of its time unused, parked on the street or in a garage? With Karkulka you pay for the car only when you are really using it.

Less environmental impact,
less traffic

Initially it may seem counter-intuitive, but adding more shared cars to the streets will result in fewer cars in cities. If two people thinking about buying their own cars for occasional trips decide to use carsharing instead, the result is one less car on the streets.

Reserving a car

You can reserve a car using the Karkulka PMDP app on your phone or the web app at www.carsharing.pmdp.cz.

After opening the app, select a car from the map or select the Reservations tab to create a new reservation.

Choose the date and time of the start and finish of your reservation. The estimated price of the reservation will be displayed, which is calculated from the hourly rate of the rental. Please note: this is not the final price! The final price depends on the actual distance you travel while you have the car. All prices are governed by the valid Price List .

The shortest possible reservation time is 30 minutes.

Payments are made from the payment card you entered when you registered. When you confirm your reservation, you automatically pay the hourly rental rate. And when you terminate your reservation, you automatically pay for the actual number of kilometres you travelled during your rental.

All prices and rates can be found in the Price List section.

You can cancel your reservation free of charge no less than 24 hours before the start of your scheduled reservation.

If you cancel your reservation less than 24 hours before your scheduled reservation, a cancellation fee will be charged. The amount of the cancellation fee is based on the current Price List. The cancellation fee is automatically charged to your payment card immediately after you cancel your reservation.

You can terminate a reservation that has already started before the scheduled end of the reservation, but the hourly price difference between the scheduled reservation and the actual reservation will not be returned to you.

You can shorten or prolong your reservation if another user has not already reserved the car for that time.

You can terminate a reservation that has already started before the scheduled end of the reservation, but the hourly price difference between the scheduled reservation and the actual reservation will not be returned to you.

You can use the app to prolong your reservation while you are borrowing the car, provided another user has not already reserved the car for that time. The rate remains the same, pursuant to the current Price List.

If you have already created a reservation, but when you reach the car you can’t open it using the mobile app, you can use voice commands. You just need to know the PIN that was assigned to you when you registered and the ID number of the car (four numbers from the registration plate). Call +420 226 293 552 to reach the interactive voice response (IVR) system. This is how you can start your car reservation without needing an app or data on your phone.

Driving with Karkulka PMDP

The reservation starts automatically. Exactly at the reserved time you can unlock the car by using your mobile app, placing your Pilsen Card against the reader behind the windscreen, or calling the interactive voice response system (see “Can I borrow a car even if the mobile app isn’t working for me or if I don’t have data on my phone?”).

Before you open the car, take a look at the car from the outside and compare any damage you find against the reported damage to the car listed in the mobile app. If you find any new damage or problems, report them before you open the car by using the mobile app or calling the hotline. By doing this, you’ll avoid any unpleasantness when the source of the damage is investigated.

After you open the car, check to make sure that the key to the car, CCS fuel card, “short” vehicle registration card, and confirmation of car insurance are in the glove box. If any of these items are missing, please report this to the hotline.

Report any damage or dirtiness inside the vehicle by using the mobile app or calling the hotline. Upon starting the car you accept all responsibility for any unreported damage to the car.

The key, CCS fuel card and car papers are located in the glove box on the front passenger side of the car. Here you’ll also find the manufacturer’s manual for the car and a short manual about using the car in the Pilsen carsharing scheme.

If you leave the vehicle while you are borrowing it, always make sure you have the keys to the car with you. You’ll need the key to lock and unlock the car during your rental – not the mobile app, Pilsen Card or IVR (these are used only to start and terminate your reservation).

Each user should refuel the car as they deem fit. However, the tank must always be at least one quarter full at the time the reservation is terminated. Failure to comply with this condition is subject to a fine pursuant to the current Price List.

The user can pay for refuelling the tank using the CCS fuel card located in the glove box of each car.
You can refuel at any filling station that accepts CCS cards. If you aren’t sure, ask the filling station attendant if they accept CCS cards.

Refuelling is automatically monitored and the rules for use are described in more detail in the General Terms of Business. Failure to comply with these terms is subject to a fine pursuant to the current Price List.

Parking in paid parking zones is free of charge throughout Pilsen (except in residential zones). Parking at other paid car parks is paid by the customer.

The reservation must always be terminated on time, according to the scheduled reservation period.
Each car is assigned to a specific parking zone, and it cannot be returned to a different zone or anywhere outside of the zone.

Before ending your reservation, return the car key to the glove box and click the chip into the reader. This way you’re letting the system know that you want to terminate your reservation. Close the glove box and make sure that you haven’t left any of your belongings inside the vehicle. Take all your rubbish and luggage with you; once the reservation ends, you will not be able to open the car.

You can lock the car and terminate your reservation either by using your mobile app, placing your Pilsen Card against the reader, or by calling the interactive voice response system.

Before leaving the vehicle, make sure that all of the doors have been safely locked.

When you terminate your reservation, you automatically pay for the actual number of kilometres you travelled during your rental. You’ll find the total price of the reservation in your app, under “Reservations/Completed”.

If you discover that you’ll be late returning the car to the right parking zone, you can extend your reservation in the mobile app.

If you can’t extend the reservation because another user has already booked the car, immediately call the hotline.

Exceeding the duration of your reservation without advance notification will be subject to a fine pursuant to the current Price List.

Don’t worry. Just call our hotline. Together we’ll figure something out.

Credit system

Credits can be used to pay for car reservations. If you receive any credits, all future reservations will be automatically deducted from this. One credit corresponds to one Czech koruna. Credits cannot be transferred, so they cannot be sent from one user to another. The credit system is governed by the General Terms of Business.
